I just bought a new docking station for my newest MBP and did not buy the OWC for this reason. Not acceptable in my book and I’m leery about buying anything else from them. To be fair, they had to ship it over a border so that could have caused delays, but in looking at the actual ship dates a lot of the delay was on OWC’s side waiting to send it, waiting to examine it. Write Speed: 2488 MB/s, Silicon Motion SM2262EN Controller, 3D TLC Synchronous NAND Flash, S.M.A.R.T. I emailed them and they just blew me off. Buy OWC Aura Pro X2 2TB NVMe SSD Kit for Select MacBook Pro Retina & MacBook Air featuring 2TB Storage Capacity, For macOS 10.13 and Later, Custom Blade Form Factor, PCIe 3.1 x4, NVMe 1.3 Interface, Max. This time however their support sucked (IMHO) and it took forever to get the replacement. Up until this I was a huge OWC fan and have purchased several of their drives over the years and their support has always been good. I installed the replacement and it’s now fine so clearly it was the drive. 6 weeks to get the replacement where I was unable to use my machine as needed and do the CAD work I bought the Aura for. I recently installed an Aura for a user with a Late 2010 MacBook Air, it lasted eight months before it blew up on them the laptop was fine and booted off an external USB (albeit at glacial speeds) but the Aura did not even.

Annoyingly it took another 4 weeks to get the replacement, totalling approx. Note that OWC recommends you update to High Sierra with your original SSD BEFORE you install an Aura Pro X2 on your Mac. About a week later I got a ship notice saying it had been sent. I had to fight with them via email until they finally agreed to replace it with a new one. I shipped it with 3 day delivery and after 2 weeks they emailed me saying there was nothing wrong with it.

I emailed OWC and they gave me an RMA and said ship it back to be replaced. I pulled the aura and re-installed the Apple SDD and all the “hardware” problems immediately went away. It was slow, all of a sudden started having weird graphics and other crashes (see my previous post on this topic). I had a second MBP and did the same update with a second aura pro and it’s was F-ed from the beginning.

I updated one of my MacBook Pros and it was okay, easy install, worked great, no issues.
